The Development and Technology Department at Petrochem Carless is engaged in a wide range of activities, including problem solving and the development of new products and technologies for existing and prospective customers. Recent projects include:
- Optimising the extraction of volume from mixed hydrocarbon streams.
- Extending our range of Reference Fluids to meet customer special requirements.
- Developing improved, environmentally friendly fuels for motorsport and powerboat events.
- Investigating new and improved fluids for drilling offshore.
- Tailored heavy aromatic products for the crop protection industry.
- Developing new, user-friendly fluids for the printing ink industry.
- The production of speciality lubricants for metalworking applications.
- The introduction of a new range of high quality extender oils.
Harwich Technical Centre
Our laboratories at Harwich Technical Centre are well equipped with a range of petrochemical testing and analytical apparatus. The main laboratory includes automatic equipment for measuring density, flash point, aniline point, cold flow properties (e.g. pour point, CFPP), distillation profiles, and vapour pressure; plus a comprehensive range of manual equipment and wet chemical techniques covering relevant ASTM and IP methods. There are also distillation pilot-plant facilities within Harwich Technical Centre.
The Gunness Laboratory
The Gunness Laboratory is equipped not only to perform a range of analyses supporting QC procedures for the automotive fluids businesses but also has a wide range of equipment for the development and evaluation of automotive antifreeze, brake fluid and windscreen wash.
