Automotive reference and development fuels
Engine and component OEM’s must produce vehicles which operate satisfactorily in all countries under all climatic and geographic conditions. Emission regulations need to be met, performance improved and the adaptation to change is essential. This can only be achieved by extensive testing and development with the appropriate fuels. Fuels vary considerably around the world and manufacturers need to match different fuels to support their R and D programmes. Special fuels are also often needed when starting engines for the first time, to certify cars, to establish mpg figures, set emissions levels and provide other reference data.

High performance motorsport engines are designed to operate at the very edge of the envelope where even the smallest deviation from planned stresses, temperatures and pressures can lead to a catastrophic failure. The type and quality of fuel used is a vital part of this engineering design.
Many motorsport championships also legislate the type of fuel that must be used – a control fuel – and use trackside sampling and fuel analysis testing to detect non-conforming or non-approved fuels. Factors which demand reliable, high performance racing and control fuels which provide identical and predictable fuel time after time.
Environmental issues are also increasingly important at all motorsport events. Fuels are formulated to be low sulphur, low benzene and to contain bio or non-hydrocarbon components. These fuels are designed to be clean burning, prevent pre-ignition (knock) and vapour lock whilst being energy efficient.
HIPERFLO™
is produced by Petrochem Carless’ Performance Fuels Division and is formulated to meet all these industry challenges. All Hiperflo™ fuels are specifically blended to the top of the required specification and tested in the laboratory and on the dynamometer.
Consistency between different batches of fuel is so high that engines can be mapped on Hiperflo™ safe in the knowledge that there will be little change in fuel quality which could cause a blown engine. Petrochem Carless is one of only a few companies in the world with the skills, experience and advanced facilities to produce Motorsport fuels to the high quality required. All sites are ISO 9002 approved so you can rest assured that any activity conducted on your behalf will be of the highest quality.
The Petrochem Carless Harwich refinery has nine specialist fuel formulation tanks. To prevent any possibility of cross-contamination each tank is completely separate and independent from the main refinery. As a further precaution, each tank has its own pump and blending jet. Outstanding blend accuracy is delivered using a highly sophisticated radar gauge system. As a further precaution against contamination or moisture ingress, all products are drummed using a 2 micron filter and hydrophilic cartridge
